The Shirlington Library will open on Sunday March 18, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon. Programs will take place until 4pm at the new location for Shirlington Library: 2800 S. Stafford Street, Arlington, VA 22206. The library is located at the end of 28th Street in Shirlington Village.

Library is nice, but it needs MANY more places to sit — both chairs and table/work/study areas.

It looks as if my comments will run contrary to many others. Frankly, I always thought libraries were about books, about reading. This one seems to feature open space. I can get plenty of open space in a park. I honestly believe that I have about as many books in my house (4,000) as this library. I do hope that the new library being designed for Westover will be cozier, book-friendly, and have an atmosphere conducive to reading, and not doing electronic stuff. There is a place for computers, but it is hardly central to the main function of a library, unless your name is Bill Gates.

Aesthetically, it’s a very impressive facility; however, on the practical level, something simply MUST be done about the extreme glare where it concerns the computers facing the front of the building. I absolutely could not see the detail on the screen as a result! Is the Library considering the installation of anti-glare screens such as those on the opposite side of the building? I would certainly hope so…

It looks as if my comments will run contrary to many others. Frankly, I always thought libraries were about books, about reading. This one seems to feature open space. I can get plenty of open space in a park. I honestly believe that I have about as many books in my house (4,000) as this library. I do hope that the new library being designed for Westover will be cozier, book-friendly, and have an atmosphere conducive to reading, and not doing electronic stuff. There is a place for computers, but it is hardly central to the main function of a library, unless your name is Bill Gates.

Aesthetically, it’s a very impressive facility; however, on the practical level, something simply MUST be done about the extreme glare where it concerns the computers facing the front of the building. I absolutely could not see the detail on the screen as a result! Is the Library considering the installation of anti-glare screens such as those on the opposite side of the building? I would certainly hope so…

The Shirlington Library will open on Sunday March 18, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon. Programs will take place until 4pm at the new location for Shirlington Library: 2800 S. Stafford Street, Arlington, VA 22206. The library is located at the end of 28th Street in Shirlington Village.
